Reproductive Rights News Roundup – March 27, 2026

In this week’s publication from Catholics for Choice, FRF partner and the Organizing and Engagement Specialist for Policy & Campaigns Nicole McCurdy, examines the crisis in plain sight from recent weeks and years, highlighting the far-reaching harms that abortion bans and restrictions on reproductive care have had across the South, particularly for Black women.

“Dignity is not conditional. It does not disappear during pregnancy, and it cannot be selectively applied.”

And yet, we keep seeing the exact consequences we warned about playing out: women, parents, and families suffering because of political interference in their medical decisions.

Most recently, ProPublica published the stories of two Black women, and a troubling history, of Florida hospitals forcing patients into C-sections they didn’t consent to. In the case of Cherise Doyley, a doula herself, she was handed a tablet for a virtual court hearing that served as an attempt to override her refusal for an emergency C-section. Without time to prepare or a lawyer present, she had to appeal to a judge, while in active labor.

McCurdy reminds us, “True moral leadership requires more than intention; it requires the courage to confront harm, to choose compassion over control, and to protect life in all its fullness,” which is why we cannot let this continue. As we work with advocates and patients themselves to propose policy solutions, here is an action we can all take right now:
“What is unfolding in Georgia, Florida, and across the Southeast is not just a policy shift: It is a moral crisis. And it demands a response grounded in truth.” Read Nicole McCurdy’s full piece here.
