They&#8217;ll be back in April to address it, along with a special session on mid-decade illegal, partisan redistricting, and likely other policies, so we&#8217;ll remain vigilant.<\/p><p>After 60 days, plus the preceding Committee Weeks, here are some main takeaways:\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>First, the bad. Bills attacking:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><p>our right to vote<\/p><\/li><li><p>our right to advocate and protest<\/p><\/li><li><p>our local communities&#8217; right to support diversity, equity, and inclusion<\/p><\/li><li><p>and our right to unionize\u00a0<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p><strong>all passed and will be sent to the Governor for signing.<\/strong><\/p><p>A restriction on some individuals from other countries taking part in\u00a0<strong>surrogacy contracts<\/strong>\u00a0did get added as a last minute amendment to an unrelated bill and passed. We will continue monitoring what we know is a long-term attempt to ban surrogacy for LGBTQ+ families, unmarried individuals, and ultimately all families. We know that Floridians want and deserve the resources needed to make decisions about their bodies, families, and futures &#8211; and we are committed to building that in our state.\u00a0<\/p><p>We also know\u00a0<strong>the legislature<\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong>neglected to meaningfully address the affordability crisis<\/strong>, our rising costs of rent, property insurance, health insurance, groceries, utilities, and childcare.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Nevertheless, it&#8217;s important to emphasize that we as a coalition have\u00a0a lot\u00a0to be proud of.\u00a0<\/strong>For the second year in a row, we successfully defeated the overwhelming majority of bills attacking our reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ rights, the environment, gun safety policies, immigrants, and social safety nets.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>What did we stop?<\/strong>\u00a0A bounty bill on folks seeking abortion pills, the Abusers&#8217; Bill of Rights, the attack on sexual health education, the bill stripping minors of birth control, STI treatment, and mental health resources, the ban on Pride flags, further attacks on trans Floridians, and more.\u00a0<strong>And we did all of this without scapegoating or abandoning our communities.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Another win:\u00a0<\/strong>due to incredible advocacy, temporary funding was passed unanimously to restore access to affordable HIV and AIDS medication for thousands of Floridians.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>These things don&#8217;t happen by accident; they happen because of persistent, representative, and bold coalitions like ours.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p>Our stories, our fights, and our futures matter.
