The League of Women Voters of Manatee County on Friday double-downed on its criticism of county government funding for two local crisis pregnancy centers. Earlier this week, the LWV said it objected to giving $100,000 in taxpayer money to Solve Maternity Homes and Care Net Manasota Pregnancy Center, because the groups had not requested the funding and that the proposal from Commissioner James Satcher had not been listed on the agenda for the commission’s meeting on July 27, when it was approved with a 5-1 vote.

This fall, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in Dobbs v. Mississippi, a challenge to Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban. The court appears likely to uphold the restrictive law, overturning a near half-century of precedents prohibiting abortion bans before viability.
