Reproductive Rights News Roundup – January 10th 2024

Progress Florida
Welcome to 2025 and back to the Floridians for Reproductive Freedom Coalition’s weekly newsletter.
This week, had Amendment 4 passed, would have been the end of our state’s near-total abortion ban. Instead, abortion providers and funds are finding their footing in this new reality, while caretakers, advocates, and patients work in community to ensure those who need abortion care have as many resources as possible to pursue that decision. The truth remains clear: the majority of Floridians are opposed to political interference with their personal medical decisions and are more committed than ever to ending our extreme abortion ban.
While the challenges before us are immense, the power we built together in 2024 is only growing. You can count on this coalition and newsletter to give you the run-down on all things reproductive freedom, from breaking news to local events and job openings. Have something to contribute? Please email Cheyenne@progressflorida.org.
Our hearts are aching for those impacted by the fires in California, the first responders, and the nearby communities bracing for possible devastation. For those seeking resources or opportunities to volunteer, this is a hub of comprehensive information with routine updates. Many are accepting material donations and financial contributions.

Wade was overturned, states will continue to introduce and consider legislation to expand or restrict access to reproductive health care and abortion as legislative sessions begin. Letters to the editor

Floridians like marijuana and reproductive rights. Will our leaders listen to us?
By G. Spencer Myers, Boynton Beach, Palm Beach Post
If the Florida Legislature was paying attention to the recent election, it should be aware that it has been given a mandate to do two things. First, return the right of women to control their reproductive decisions granted in Roe v. Wade, and second, legalize the right to use marijuana as we see fit. Each of these referenda were approved by 57% of the voters. If the legislature believes in democracy, it will realize that the people have spoken. They do not want the government making decisions about what we can do with our own bodies.
