The article details two researchers from John Hopkins University have conducted a study where they looked at data from 2012 to 2023 to determine how abortion bans have affected infant mortality rates. • The research showed an additional 478 infant deaths, with infant deaths being 5.6% more than they would have been without bans. Deaths from birth defects increased by 10%, and deaths from complications during birth 4%.
  • Black infants died at an 11% rate higher than expected, and Black women are more likely to die than other mothers. Birth rates were higher for Black, Latino, and other people of color.
