Reproductive Rights News Roundup – March 7th 2025

Progress Florida
This legislative session is going to come down to a fight to protect the power of the people. Attacks on citizen-led amendments are continuing at a rapid pace. This Monday, the Senate Committee on Ethics and Elections will hear a THIRD bill meant to restrict our ability to make changes in our communities through the amendment process.
Here’s how you can help: (full action kit linked here)
  • Send a message to members of the committee in opposition to these attacks on direct democracy. (In the last committee, they referenced how constituents were reacting to this bad policy; our voices matter.)
  • Make calls to the members hearing this bill on Monday:
    • Member: Senator Jennifer Bradley.
      Number: (850) 487-5006

      Member: Senator Don Gaetz.
      Number: (850) 487-5001

      Member: Senator Darryl Rouson.
      Number: (850) 487-5016

      Member: Senator Mack Bernard
      Number: (850) 487-5024

Script: Hello, this is [X]. I’m asking the Senator to vote NO on changes to the citizen-led amendment process proposed in SPB 7016. The process to get an amendment on the ballot in Florida is already one of the strictest in the nation, requiring nearly one million signatures to get on the ballot and 60% support from voters to pass. I’m asking that politicians not make the process harder.

  • Call the Chair of the next House Committee and ask him to NOT add this bill to a future agenda:
    • Member: Representative Will Robinson
      Rep Number: (850) 717-5071

Script: Hello, this is [X]. Representative Robison has an opportunity to stop attacks on citizen-led amendments. I’m asking him NOT to schedule HB 1205 in State Affairs. The process to get an amendment on the ballot in Florida is already one of the strictest in the nation, requiring nearly one million signatures to get on the ballot and 60% support from voters to pass. We don’t need politicians to make the process harder.

  • Share online! If one of these bad bills passes, it could severely limit everyday people from being able to pass transformative policies, including protections and expansion of health care and reproductive rights. We have to make sure lawmakers know these policies are unnecessary and unpopular. Check out this messaging guide for guidance.
