Palm Beach County schools quietly drop sex education course

  • Palm Beach country schools have offered a “Human Growth and Development” curriculum in years past. Schools usually taught sex ed for one week during Spring, and topics ranged from menstruation and child safety to pregnancy and consent. Parents were allowed to opt their students out of the program.  
  • County officials say that they never got approval for that program, so this year they will have to solely rely on science textbooks to provide the material. Moving forward, school counties have to emphasize the consequences of teen pregnancy and emphasize the benefits of abstinence. The Department of Education has been given districts instructions verbally, with no written or recorded communication.
