Reproductive Rights News Roundup – March 14th 2025

Progress Florida

Week 2 of Legislative Session has ended and there’s plenty to do.

Let’s dive in. Here’s your legislative action wrap-up leading into Week 3:
Please note: There are MANY good and bad bills to watch this Session. The following are listed because they include the most timely actions based on where the bills are in the process (being heard in committee & closer to passing). Each action page takes just seconds to complete and is tailored to let you contact the specific lawmakers who are voting on these bills.
  • The Anti-Diversity in Local Government Bill: an outrageous overreach by the state, silencing local governments from representing and legislating their values. It threatens the operation of nondiscrimination ordinances and could even ban Pride Month or Black History Month resolutions, or having a local commission on women’s issues.
  • The Don’t Say Gay or Trans at Work Bill: would create an open license to discriminate against transgender Floridians in government workplaces and prohibit public employers from facilitating employee trainings on LGBTQ issues, including on nondiscrimination and sexual harassment.
    • Oppose SB 440 (in Senate Governmental Oversight & Accountability on 3/18)
  • The Banning Diversity & Equity in State Agencies Bill: would defund diversity, equity, and inclusion in state agencies and ban state contractors and grantees from using state funds for DEI.
    • Oppose SB 1710 (in Senate Governmental Oversight & Accountability on 3/18)
Bonus (and very important!): Keep the pressure on lawmakers to defend citizen-led amendments. Access the action toolkit here.

Sign the Petition: Establish a Black Midwives Day

Establish a Black Midwives Day

The National Black Midwives Alliance
(NBMA) is launching a campaign to establish March 14 as Black Midwives Day.

By centering Black midwives in the community, we gain access to a channel for cultural knowledge, methods, tools, and values that will remedy poor maternal health outcomes through the extension of black birthing traditions that are rooted in African, African-American, and other indigenous people.
