- Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is pushing the Trump administration to end insurance coverage for birth control. Last week, they sent a letter to the Department of Health and Human services arguing that the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which the federal government has agreements with, is a “pro-abortion” organization. ACOG works on recommending preventative measures, such as health screenings and birth control, and making childbirth and maternity overall safer.
- ADF wants the partnership with ACOG to end as a result of their recommendation that services like birth control and emergency contraception have to be covered by insurance, since the far-right organization sees these measures as “pro-abortion”. When it comes to childbirth and maternity safety, ACOG suggests practices that include anti-racist thinking when providing healthcare, which ADF is also against.
