It’s undeniable: actions by the Trump Administration are having immediate and devastating impacts on our communities. What isn’t getting as much attention is the long game. Right now, Trump is laying the groundwork for lasting assaults on our civil rights by nominating loyalists and extremists to our federal courts, including U.S. District Courts here in Florida.
Most judges confirmed to federal judgeships serve a lifetime appointment and decide cases that make a meaningful difference in our lives and the lives of our children and grandchildren.
Trump’s current slate of judicial nominees have proven they will work to dismantle reproductive freedoms, LGBTQ equality, environmental protections, workplace safety, and more.
One of the most dangerous nominees is Judge Jordan Pratt, who most recently authored the opinion that invalidated judicial bypass in Florida, a process that allowed minors in unsafe and unsupportive homes to access an abortion when a parent couldn’t get involved or it wasn’t safe to involve them. Judge Pratt sided with keeping minors pregnant against their will.
Appointees from Trump’s first term in office have already wreaked havoc on our communities. They’ve overturned our right to access an abortion, allowed for the criminalization of homelessness, rolled back affirmative action in higher education, and given presidents broad immunity from criminal prosecution. Tell the Senate Judiciary Committee: reject this slate of ideologically driven, biased, Trump loyalist nominees who will jeopardize the freedoms of all Americans.
We must have courts that reflect, represent, include, and serve everyone in the United States.
