The Central Florida Birth Network has created the Sumter County Mama Closet, a community resource to support pregnant and postpartum families in Sumter County, a maternal health desert. Such an effort helps bridge gaps in care by bringing resources directly to families where they live.
To help meet the ongoing need, it will be collecting:
--Period products
--Diapers and wipes
--Postpartum recovery supplies
--Infant feeding supplies
--Hurricane preparedness items for families with babies and young children
As a maternal care desert, Sumter County has a lack of birth and postpartum resources. Many residents face barriers to accessing reproductive, pregnancy, postpartum, and infant feeding support. As a result, too many go without essential items during pregnancy and early parenthood.
In early June, the Central Florida Birth Network Regional Contact for Sumter County, Tenesha Davis of Paradise Lactation Care, hosted Diapers & Dreams. This was a community supply drive that connects local families with diapers, infant feeding supplies, clothing, and other essential resources.
To continue this work, the Central Florida Birth Network invites community partners to join them in supporting the Sumter County Mama Closet through donating or by helping spread the word. For those able to participate, please use the following Amazon wishlist link, or share it among your community:
