Reproductive Rights News Roundup – April 24, 2026

In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more and more events and promotions for “Fund-a-thon,” so this week, we want to tell you why. Fund-a-thon is an annual fundraising event for abortion funds to maximize their donations and ensure they can support patients with costs year-round.

The decision to have an abortion is a deeply personal one that people make for different and nuanced reasons. The logistics behind actually accessing the care from a clinic can vary, but restrictions like Florida’s six-week abortion ban and the mandatory 24-hour waiting period make it even more challenging.

All of the costs add up, not to mention needing to take time off from work or school, and it’s made even more complicated when there are flight delays, inclement weather, or scheduling barriers out of a patient’s control.

Using INeedAnA.com‘s calculator, here’s just one estimate of the costs a patient could encounter:

And yet, people are still getting abortions. Abortion funds are one of the main reasons patients have still been able to get the care they need, because we take care of us.

We also know that many people in Florida and across the world have learned about self-managed abortion and getting pills by mail, which has substantially contributed to access regardless of where someone lives.

As you see Fund-a-thon events, donation links, and promotions circulating, remember the personal and lasting impacts they have on people’s lives. A donation can make the difference between someone being able to stay in a hotel instead of in their car overnight somewhere they’ve never been or could pay for a cozy drink to have after the appointment or even help a patient cover the costs of bringing their partner, best friend, or mom with them.

We shouldn’t have to live like this, but until the laws reflect our needs and protect our freedoms, we will continue doing whatever it takes to ensure people can access abortions with resources, support, and dignity.
